Big Tech CEOs faced lawmakers Wednesday over allegations of platform abuse, as battles continue around social media safety for children. Meta's (META) Mark Zuckerberg even apologized to families before the Senate Judiciary Board. Wall Street Journal tech reporter Jeff Horwitz joined Yahoo Finance Live to discuss the hearings, noting regulation of social media has been "very limited" so far. Horwitz said there's "a consensus" on the need for platforms to invest more and "be more thoughtful in their feature designs" to improve protections. However, he questioned whether the current Congress is "well-suited to this field of regulation" given its older composition. Horwitz highlighted Meta research revealing "known" and "foreseeable" mental health risks from using their platforms under "certain circumstances". While not "negative to the world" inherently, issues clearly need addressing. #youtube #yahoofinance #stockmarket About Yahoo Finance: Yahoo Finance provides free stock ticker data, up-to-date news, portfolio management resources, comprehensive market data, advanced tools, and more information to help you manage your financial life. - Get the latest news and data at finance.yahoo.com - Download the Yahoo Finance app on Apple (https://apple.co/3Rten0R) or Android (https://bit.ly/3t8UnXO) - Follow Yahoo Finance on social: X: http://twitter.com/YahooFinance Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/yahoofinance/?hl=en TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@yahoofinance?lang=en Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/yahoofinance/ LinkedIn: https://www.din.com/company/yahoo-finance
