This year's UN climate summit ended with a last-minute agreement to provide $300 billion annually by 2035 to help the most vulnerable nations cope with climate change. While some delegates applauded the outcome of the COP29 negotiations in Azerbaijan, others said the funding falls far short of what's needed. Developing countries and climate activists say at least $1.3 trillion a year is needed to keep the planet's average temperature rise below 1.5 degrees Celsius.
